Ysgol Noddfa

At Ysgol Pencae, we are proud to have begun our journey towards becoming a Sanctuary School — a place where welcome, kindness, and belonging are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every individual, especially those who have been forced to seek refuge or asylum, deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued.

This commitment is woven through our curriculum and daily life, supporting Cardiff’s vision of being a true City of Sanctuary. We want every learner, every member of staff, and our whole community to understand what it means to offer sanctuary — to extend a hand of friendship and to create a school where diversity is celebrated, and everyone is given the opportunity to thrive.

What is a Sanctuary School?

  • A school where people seeking sanctuary — including families who are refugees or asylum seekers — are welcomed with open arms and open hearts.

  • A community that educates itself about the right to safety and belonging, and takes active steps to show this in words and actions.

  • A place that listens to the voices of those who have journeyed far, promotes understanding of their experiences, and works to break down stereotypes and build bridges of empathy.

At Ysgol Pencae, we believe that by fostering a spirit of compassion, understanding, and unity, we are helping to create not just a better school — but a better world.
